Many of the best places to bird watch can be found around local areas that you visit every day and just aren’t aware of. Almost every climate and location has some unique characteristics that make it a good spot to check out some of the local birds. Different places have unique features such as mountains, rivers, marshes, swamps. islands, oceans, valleys, deserts, and so forth that are all home to many unique and interesting types of birds that you can watch if you just stay on the look out for that. The first step when looking for new places to bird watch is to make a list of local features in your area that would make ideal locations for birds to live. For example, I live in a state with a lot of mountains so that would be the first place I would go to find new birds. I also live in a place that has some unique water features which means that birds of different varieties can spend time out there as well. If you’re not sure where to go then look at where tourists come to visit when they go to your area. Check and see if there are national parks or nature reserves because you’ll often find a lot of interesting new birds in these areas. You will also have access to people that know a lot about local birds and can give unique information about certain species that are native to your area.

It’s also a good idea to begin looking around your home if you haven’t already. If you aren’t seeing many birds then you can also take some steps to encourage them to come around and feed near your home in order to give you more viewing time of them. Some of the best ways to do this are to simply have a feeder and some seed out for your birds as well as a bird bath and some flowers or plants that birds are attracted to. You can also give them a bird house or two to live in if you have nesting birds in your area.

Vacations are also a great time to go bird watching as they afford you new sights and opportunities to see new kinds of birds that may not be available in your local area. Any time you take a trip whether it be to a resort or simply out camping take some time to do some advance research to figure out what kinds of birds will be in the area, where the best places are to spot them, and to take a field guide with you that is suitable for the area you are visiting to help you identify new species.

You can also simply get a little out of your normal neighborhood. Just driving a few miles can make a big difference when it comes to the types of birds you’ll be seeing especially if you live in the middle of a large city where birds can be a little more scarce. Just a few miles outside of town you may find some really nice areas that can afford you a new look at what kinds of birds are available in your area.

The best thing about bird watching is that birds are everywhere so no matter where you go you’ll be able to see some so really the best place to go bird watching is wherever you want to go!
